
Period (1878-1958) Karim Kassim was the younger brother of Bandali Varas Kassim (1875-1956). Born in 1878 in Karachi, where he began his formal education in Sind Madresa-tul-Islam, School upto fourth class. He had a strong command in English, Gujrati and Sindhi languages. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, was his classmate. Karim Kassim was more likely Karachi and Hyderabad in 1908 as their next home. He built a beautiful cottage in Prince Aly Road, Hyderabad. The bungalow is a face and a construction exclusive. Prince Aly Khan also stayed in the bungalow during his visit to Hyderabad. He had a big booming leather and also in Karachi and Hyderabad had its branches in Bombay, Delhi, Lahore, Agra, Kanpur, Quetta, etc. Karim Kassim had owned over 100 acres of land on the riverbank Phuleli in Hyderabad, where he built beautiful gardens and residential buildings, decorated with more swimming pools, known as Karim Bagh. He was the first in Hyderabad to enter the car and telephone. Karim Kassim enjoyed life prosperous and eventful. He was a member of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad for 25 years and elected each year. His relations friendly to the eminent persons of his time, namely Nizam of Deccan, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah, Sir Haji Abdullah Haroon, etc. Also had friendly relations with the feudal families of Sindh, including Mir of Khairpur, Talpur, MIRS and others. It also had close contacts with influential British officials. Karim Kassim was a dedicated social worker, both inside and outside the community. The Viceroy of India also conferred the title of Khan Bahadhur in 1918 for meritorious service during the First World War. On 6 May 1920, Imam Sultan Mohammed Shah said Jamatkhana Kharadhar in Karachi that "I appoint as my Wazir Karim Kassim. Wazir Karim Kassim execute his duties as a vizier of Sind and everything I say to all of Sind jamats to follow the orders of Wazir Karim Kassim and assist him in the affairs of the community. "The Imam also said, "Wazir Karim Kassim, I congratulate the office of the Wazir and bless him. Inshallah, we will work to improve the drive jamats." The Jamatkhana Hyderabad was built in 1899, when there were about a hundred of the Ismailis in the city. The Jamat increased after 25 years and went upto 325. Imam Sultan Shah Mohammed donated Rs. 20,000 / – for Jamatkhana again. Varas Karim Kassim donated Rs. 10000 / – and other donors shared for Rs. 11,000 / – The new plan was purchased for Rs. 18000 / – And Varas Karim Kassim opened its first stone on Tuesday, July 21st, 1924. All Ismailis, including Hussain Alarakhia Huzur Mukhi, Rahmatullah Mukhi Bana, Kamadia Vali Mohammad Suleman, Missionary Hamir Lakha, etc, attended the founding ceremony. Karim Kassim was appointed as the President of Ismailia Khwaja Sind School on 20 January 1926 and was also the President Hyderabad branch of the Institute Recreation Club. It was also the first president of the Association of Sind, in Ismailia 1928, formerly known as the Anjuman-e-Islam-i Ishait. Karim Kassim also took active part in restoring and re-solve a number of people living in slum area in the interior parts of Sindh. He extended monetary support to establish and maintain small businesses for their livelihood. He also served as President of the Council of His Highness the Aga Khan in Hyderabad and Upper Sind, whose jurisdiction extended from time to time in Punjab and Frontier. In 1941, British India was declared as a JP (Justice of Peace). Karim Kassim also is credited with arranged marriages in Sind and spent his own money in the ceremonies. Imam Sultan Mohammed Shah was so pleased with their noble service he was awarded the special title "The Commissioner for marriages" with a silver coffin and a letter of appreciation in 1949. He married twice. His first wife was Danabai, who gave birth a son, Hussain and a daughter, Zainab or Jenubai. Zainab married to Dr. Ghulam Ali Allana. She was the first Muslim woman in India to be appointed as parliamentary secretary in 1931, post he held upto 1951 in the Government of Sind. He was also elected to the Legislature in 1937 in Sind From the time of the separation of Sind from Bombay Presidency MLA and remains upto 1952. His second wife was originally a Hindu Rajput, called Khushali. Ismailism embraced by the hands of the magnet and was appointed Kulsoom. He was well educated and interested in Islamic history. He also appeared in local Waez Hyderabad, and was also the founder and president of Ladies Committee. She died in Hyderabad on October 8 1955. She was the mother of one son and six daughters.
