I tend to have more energy in the morning, and my ability to do five things at once during these hours of the morning, that's why I love my slow cooker. While children are eating breakfast, and I'm enjoying my morning coffee, deliver lunch my husband and kissed him goodbye, I can add some ingredients to slow cooker and walk away feeling confident that they will have a healthy dinner on the table at five o'clock.
However, the most convenient and simple as a slow cooker are, are some tips to help you avoid the morning rush. If more than a night owl, most ingredients can be prepared the night before and put in the refrigerator until morning. Pasta and rice are the exception to this rule. Be sure to read the recipes for slow cooking and have carefully into account when these ingredients are to be added.
Temperature and time
Slow cookers use only two settings, High and Low. I tend to cook all of my meals at low, as it is nearly impossible to cook the food at this temperature. One low cooking tips abstain from taking the cover often, because it makes the recipe for not only lose moisture, but heat (creating more cooking time).
Most slow cooker recipes you will approximate cooking time. It is important to remember that the approximation is just that, and cooking times are not set in stone. Depending on their slow cookers of size and temperature setting cooking times vary.
Meats
Tougher, less sensitive, cuts of meat work well in a slow cooker from the longer cooking time and increased moisture works to break the flesh. The other advantage of cooking meat over a long period is that there less shrinkage. Most of the meat should be thawed before adding to slow cooker, although there are exceptions, you can add frozen roasts, but need more cooking time. Furthermore, when cooked with ground beef, brown it is best to comply before adding to slow cooker.
Vegetables
Fresh, raw vegetables such as potatoes and carrots tend to take longer to cook meat, so little should be chopped or sliced more small and placed in the bottom of slow cooker. Vegetables, canned or frozen, not have the time and can be added on top of meat are cooking.
Breads and Cakes
I was surprised that slow cooking pots can successfully bake breads and cakes. However, the look tends to be something different and then using a conventional oven. Because some moisture remains in a slow cooker, cakes and breads tend to have air holes of large size and a thinner consistency thick. You can also use your slow cooker to heat the functions of the dinner, but be sure to wrap in a foil wrapper.
Dairy Products
Dairy products tend not to tolerate high temperatures for long. When possible, add any milk products during the last hour cooking. Hard cheese is very temperamental to long periods of heat, so the use of processed cheese when possible.
Have fun with your slow cooker. There are literally thousands of creative and delicious recipes for slow cooker available. You can serve a home and mouth-watering nutritious cooked meal every night, with little preparation and plenty of extra time to spend on their other responsibilities. What a fantastic invention and practical!
